The Ahmadi Governor said the agreement is testimony to the eagerness of the leadership in both countries to strengthen relations in the cultural, social, economic and trade-related fields. He stressed that both cities, are vital to the industries and economies of the respective countries, adding that it is hoped that the visit and official meetings will meet some of the expectations of the two peoples.
On his meeting with Le Hoang Quan, the governor said it was a chance to review the development and investment plans of Ho Chi Minh City and to encourage more cooperation and interaction in these two areas. The MoU specifically addresses cooperation in the fields of cultural exchange, trade, investment, education, the environment, scientific research and advancement, and technology. He revealed that ways of building on the results of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah's 2007 visit to Vietnam were also discussed during the meeting, as well as ways of benefiting from the visit to Kuwait by the Vietnamese Premier in March 2009. Kuwait's relationship with Ho Chi Minh City has additional significance since Kuwait is the only Middle Eastern country with representation here, and thus the ties serve as spring board to relations with the region in general. The Ahmadi Governor noted that there has been a marked growth in relations between the two countries since 1976, when the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development launched the first of its cooperative ventures with Vietnam in infrastructure and development projects. Vietnam's successful leadership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2010 will contribute to accelerating the development of relations between the ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, the governor added. The Ho Chi Minh governor meanwhile stressed the MoU would help to boost relations in all fields between the two friendly nations. The meeting between the two governors was attended by Kuwaiti Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Najib Al-Bader, the Assistant Director General of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Information System Affairs Saud Khalid Al-Zaid, Environment Public Authority advisor Khalifa Mohammad Al-Mutawaah, and other senior officials. - KUNA |
