VIETNAM - KUWAIT RELATIONS
In political field:
Vietnam and Kuwait established diplomatic relations on 10th January 1976. Vietnam inaugurated its trade office in June 1993 and opened its Embassy in Kuwait in October 2003.
Kuwait officially opened its Embassy in Hanoi in August 2007 and General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City in September the same year.

In Economic field:
The two countries have signed some agreements and MOUs on cooperation in different fields:
- May 1995: Frame-work Agreement on bilateral cooperation in Economics, Science and Technology;
- May 2001: Agreement on Aviation Transportation;
- May 2005: Trade Agreement
- June 2005: Protocol on Cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs;
- May 2007: Protocol on Establishment of the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Kuwait; Agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection; Agreement on Cooperation between the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)
- March 2009: Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and fiscal evasion; MOU on Agricultural Cooperation; MOU on Cooperation between the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) and the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) of Vietnam.
Through Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), more than 100 million US dollars has been lent to Vietnam for rural infrastructure projects (irrigation works and rural roads) at low interests.
A joint venture contract on Nghi Son oil refinery and petrochemical project was also signed in Ho Chi Minh City on April 7, 2008, between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and the Kuwaiti Petroleum International (KPI) and the Japanese partners: Idemitsu and Mítui Chemicals Inc. The complex, the largest so far, is under construction in Nghi Son commune, Tinh Gia district of the central province of Thanh Hoa with an investment capital of $ 6 billion. It is projected to be completed in 2014.
Vietnam’s exports to Kuwait include garment and textile products, seafoods, hardwoods, computers, electronic appliances, vegetables, black pepper, footwear and china ware.
Vietnam's imports from Kuwait include D.O oil, urine fertilizer, plastic material, cloth material, chemical products, textile and leather material and accessories.
